Fishing is a large part of life on any expedition. As soon as we raise the sails the very next job is to hang a trolling line out the back.
Schools of fish can be spotted a mile away as the birds dive into the water hoping for a meal. Beneath the bait fish are the big ones. We stall Imajica and take to the dinghy, steering straight through the school of skipjack or yellow fin tuna.
If trolling hasn't provided our evening meal, once we've dropped anchor we hop in the dinghy to troll for coral trout or cod along the coral drop offs, or mangrove jack in the estuaries.
The local boys are expert fishermen. Using homemade spear guns, they can catch a meal in fifteen minutes. Sometimes fish, sometimes painted crays.
And if all this isn't enough fishing for one day, once the sun goes down there is arguably nothing better than sitting in the forward netting, fishing line in one hand, cup of tea in the other, while exchanging jokes with the rest of the crew.
